Elyse Morales Picks SMC for Wrestling
Elyse Morales of Decatur High School has signed her NJCAA Letter of Intent to wrestle for the Roadrunners starting in Fall 2026.
Morales has a career record of 117-20 with a 25-2 mark in her senior season, good for a #2 ranking in the state. She was a member of the Michigan National team and GFC Champion. She was a 3-time MHSAA State placer and 3-time high school State All-American, in addition to winning her conference, district and region. She is also a 2-time USA Freestyle State Champion.
Head Coach Todd Hesson said of Morales, "Elyse has been part of our open room workouts since the very start of our off season. Elyse is a quiet, hardworking wrestler who may tend to fly under the radar in the room. However, once on the mat, she flips a switch and becomes an aggressive, punishing wrestler with an extreme desire to win!"
Morales joins Olesya Mullins of Beaufort, South Carolina and Harleigh Toepfer of Portage Northern in the 2026 SMC Women's Wrestling recruiting class.
In March, SMC Women's Wrestling traveled to Council Bluffs, Iowa, to compete in the NJCAA National Championships, where the team finished its inaugural year at #23 in the country.
On April 8, SMC held a public ceremony to dedicate a new 11,195 square-foot wing of the Charles O. Zollar Building that quadruples the space available to the men's and women's wrestling teams. It doubles the mat capacity for practice sessions and provides additional competition space for hosting conference and regional meets. The new facility also includes a dedicated fitness and warm-up area, coaches' offices, locker rooms and additional restrooms.
