Harleigh Toepfer Signs to Wrestle with SMC
Harleigh Toepfer of Portage Northern High School has signed her NJCAA Letter of Intent to wrestle for Coach Todd Hesson and the Roadrunners starting in Fall 2026.
Toepfer is a two-time state qualifier and is currently ranked third in her weight class by MHSAA. She was the Conference, District, and Regional Champion in 2025, and she was also the Ron Russo Classic Champion this year. She is the first member of the 2026 SMC Women's Wrestling recruiting class.
Hesson said of Toepfer, "Harleigh is a hard worker with goals on and off the mat! She has a passion for the sport and will be great addition to the SMC women's program."
Coach Desrochers added, "We are incredibly proud of Harleigh and her commitment to continue wrestling at the next level. Her work ethic, discipline and passion for the sport have set her apart. There is no doubt she will make an impact at SMC."
Coach Dunham enthused that, "Harleigh is one of the most focused and self-driven athletes I've coached. Her work ethic, leadership and consistency make her a standout not just on the mat, but in every environment she is part of."
In the spring of 2025, SMC announced the construction of a new 11,195 square-foot wing of the Charles O. Zollar Building that will quadruple the space available to the men's and women's wrestling teams. It will double the mat capacity for practice sessions and provide additional competition space for hosting conference and regional meets. The new facility will also include a dedicated fitness and warm-up area, coaches' offices, locker rooms and additional restrooms. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in May; on-site work is well underway with occupancy targeted for February 2026.
