Anya Watkins Picks the Roadrunners
Anya Watkins of Hartford High School has signed her NJCAA Letter of Intent to compete in track and field for Head Coach Zac Sartori and the Roadrunners.
Sartori said of Watkins, "I can't wait to have Anya officially join the program. She's been hoping to compete for us for about a year now and I'm excited that she'll finally get the opportunity with the addition of track and field. She becomes yet another athlete to join us from Hartford High School. I'm glad for their support."
Watkins' added that "Work is behind the scenes and competition is the easy part." She is the seventh member of the 2025 SMC Women's Track and Field recruiting class, joining Elizabeth Smith of Gobles, Saniya Porter of Lansing, Illinois; Elaine Murphy and Izabel Hoskin of Niles; teammate Savannah Mullins from Hartford and Dayne Cuvo of Constantine. At least eight other student-athletes will compete in both women's cross country and women's track for the Roadrunners.
In April 2024, SMC's Board of Trustees unanimously approved the addition of Women's Wrestling, Men's Track & Field and Women's Track & Field as official NJCAA sports, to start competition in Fall 2025. This expansion will bring the number of NJCAA teams at SMC to nine, plus multiple club and E-sports opportunities.
