Women's Basketball 1-1 in First Week of Conference Play

SMC Women's Basketball started conference play with a close loss, 50-44, against the visiting Marian Ancilla Chargers on Saturday. The teams were tied after one quarter and the Roadrunners were down six at the half. SMC had trouble scoring in the third, with just six points the whole quarter, but charged back in the fourth to make it a game. Freshman Trinity Dale double-doubled with 15 points and 14 rebounds, while sophomore Rayvan Rush added 9 points and 13 boards. 

On Wednesday, SMC jumped out to a big lead and were up by as much as 34 at halftime (54-20) over the Kellogg Bruins. The second half was played pretty even, and the Roadrunners and picked up their first conference win of the season 92-63. Dale had 28 points, four assists and four rebounds, feshman Qimara Summers put in 20 points and sophomore Kaitlynn Williams-Clark added 14 and 4 boards.

SMC is now 7-8 overall and 1-1 in the MCCAA West; next up is a trip north to GRCC to face the Raiders on Saturday, 1/17.
