White Pigeon’s David Lane Now a Roadrunner
David Lane of White Pigeon has signed his NJCAA Letter of Intent to run cross country for Head Coach Zac Sartori and the Roadrunners starting in Fall 2026. He will also compete in track and field for SMC.
White Pigeon Coach Mindy Williams said, ""David Lane's selflessness, perseverance, and leadership helped White Pigeon's cross-country team qualify for state for the first time since 1968. David is both an excellent runner and an excellent student, but his determination and coachability truly set him apart. There is no quit in David, and his team-first attitude is contagious. As a Chief, David was named the SW10 Bill Swanwick Courageous Runner and earned All League, All County, and Academic All State Honors. I cannot wait to see what he is able to accomplish as a Roadrunner."
Coach Sartori added, "David has some untapped talent and I'm excited that he'll be joining us this year. He's a great young man and a well-rounded student and athlete. He's going to make a great addition to our program."
Lane joins Dontrel Taylor of Three Rivers and Trent Hansen of Plainwell in the 2026 SMC Men's Cross Country recruiting class.
In Fall 2025, the Roadrunners finished the season ranked 16th in the country after competing in the NJCAA National Championships in unseasonably cold and snowy conditions at the Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Freshman Owen Saylor became SMC's 34th running All-American – and 69th overall - by finishing in the top 25 in that race.
