Men's BB 1-1 in Conference
The 2026 Western Conference slate got underway last Saturday with a Roadrunner home win over the Marian Ancilla Chargers, 91-75. Sophomore Davion Goins went off for 31 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals and a block. Freshman Jovi Ratliff put in 30, shooting 11 of 17 from the field, 60% from downtown and a perfect 5-5 from the stripe.
On Wednesday against the Kellogg Bruins, SMC found themselves down 10 points early in the game, but kept working, got out of the hole and were up three at the break. SMC then slowly built a lead in the second half and were up six points with a minute to go...but were not able to hold on and let the Bruins steal one in the final second, 74-73. Ratliff was the scoring leader for the Roadrunners with 26, going 9 of 13 from the field, 80% from the arc and 4 of 4 from the line. Freshman Jaylen Ingram had 13 points and sophomore Damontae May, who made 3 of 4 from deep, double-doubled with 11 points and 11 assists.
SMC is now 8-8 overall, 1-1 in conference and heads to Grand Rapids for a date with the Raiders on Saturday, January 17.
